Two weeks after Tom Petty’s sudden death from cardiac arrest, his friends and family celebrated his life with a service at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in the Pacific Palisades yesterday. A spot where his Traveling Wiburys’ bandmate George Harrison was also memorialized after his death in 2001. Petty’s daughter AnnaKim Violette shared a few photos from the service on Instagram, some tagged with lyrics from her dad’s songs.

Like this one from ‘The Dark of the Sun’ from the album ‘Into the Great Wide Open’.

There was a post memorial reception with commemorative t-shirts handed out! According to Vanity Fair, the Latin caption ‘Nil Desperandum’ comes from “Horace’s Odes and roughly translating to “no need to despair.””

Who gets a ringer t shirt at a funeral

Petty’s remains were interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
