Actress Leah Remini made such a big impression on Kevin James and the head honchos at his sitcom “Kevin Can Wait,” when she appeared in 2 episodes last may, that CBS has announced their decision to kill off James’ TV wife Donna, (costar Erinn Hayes) to pave the way for the return of his “King of Queens” TV wife Remini.
CBS VP Thom Sherman said, “Obviously, the chemistry between Kevin and Leah was amazing in the stunt episode(s) we did at the end of last season, and we decided we want to continue that,”
My question is if “Kevin Can Wait” is a comedy, how do you make the death of a wife and mother funny? It seems kind of crass.
Network execs say season 2 will jump forward in time and start off a year after Donna’s death. CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl said, “I’m not sure we can make that hilarious…It will be treated with dignity and respect and the show will move forward. It’s something that will have taken place in the past. I don’t want to address it until we see eventually what’s on tape in the first episode.”
In her return to the show, Remini will reprise her role as James’ former cop partner Vanessa Cellucci.
