U2 has revealed that for the 30th anniversary of their 1987 album “The Joshua Tree” they will perform the classic in it’s entirety on a tour this summer that will include a date at MetLife Stadium on June 28th. Tickets go on sale Tuesday January 17th.
This album features U2 hits “With or Without You,” ”Where The Streets Have No Name” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and became the band’s first chart-topping album in the U.S.
The Edge told Rolling Stone magazine they’re still working on how the show will go. He said “The show might not necessarily start with Track 1, Side 1 ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ because we feel like maybe we need to build up to that moment, so we’re still in the middle of figuring out exactly how the running order will go.”
He also told the magazine, “[The Joshua Tree] was written in the mid-1980s, during the Reagan-Thatcher era of British and U.S. politics.” He added “It was a period when there was a lot of unrest. It just felt like, ‘Wow, these songs have a new meaning and a new resonance today.”
Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and OneRepublic will alternate opening for U2 on the North American leg.
