BROOKLYN, NY – A New York passenger train derailed Wednesday morning, injuring dozens of passengers.
A Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train derailed at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn during the morning rush when the train plowed into the terminal around 8:30 a.m.
The FDNY initially said dozens of people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and all of those injured were treated at the scene, NBC New York reported.
The FDNY later said at least 103 people were injured, with some patients being transported to local hospitals. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the most serious injury was a broken leg.
The derailment caused heavy delays on streets near the terminal as authorities were on the scene. NYC Emergency Management announced road closures and said commuters should expect traffic delays during the day.
